Meet Kia

Kia Winter 2021 GradMeet Kia! She graduated from our virtual winter 2021 program empowered and ready to take on life! Kia gained a new perspective on life, enhanced her communication skills, confronted past trauma, and is stronger and more empowered than ever. We are so proud of her for passing her ServSafe exam and receiving her food manager’s license. We are confident Kia will continue to grow and will make a future for herself that she is proud of.

What circumstances brought you to where you were before you joined Together We Bake?

Kia: Depression, lack of attention, low self-esteem, I had no job and wanted better.

What inspired you to apply to Together We Bake?

Kia: I wanted to find a space where I could learn to do something for myself. To stop being available for others and take time for me.

How has Together We Bake changed your perspective on life?

Kia: I take a look at it in a different, a more kind way.

Has someone at Together We Bake (a fellow participant, volunteer, instructor, etc.) had a particular influence on you?

Kia: Stephanie; she has a caring heart and shows compassion when it comes to everything.

How would you describe Together We Bake?

Kia: A safe zone. It’s a wonderful, phenomenal group of women who empower our community.

What do you feel is the most valuable thing Together We Bake does?

Kia: TWB restores your soul and encourages you to see your self-worth.

What is the most valuable thing you learned at Together We Bake?

Kia: How to actively listen to other people and I learned how to negotiate.

Do you have any specific memories of experiences at Together We Bake?

Kia: My day in the kitchen opened my horizons, I worked in a real kitchen.

What was the most challenging thing about the program? How did you overcome those challenges?

Kia: Staying still on camera, being on time helped me though.

What is something you are proud of that you achieved because of your participation in Together We Bake?

Kia: I overcame life barriers, I’m brighter now, happier. I make wiser decisions and have better communication skills.

What advice do you have for the women considering applying to Together We Bake?

Kia: It’s such a wonderful program that our community has, giving us the tools to make life a little easier to cope with.
