Shawn is the most thoughtful, kind, caring woman. She started our program in the Fall shy and timid, hyper-aware to what others were thinking about her; but by the time graduation rolled along, she was out of her shell, sharing her smiles and positivity, and she found her confidence. What circumstances brought you to where you were before you joined Together We Bake?
Shawn: I was looking to be able to talk without feeling ashamed or being judged.
What inspired you to apply to Together We Bake?
Shawn: I was looking to build my confidence, self-esteem, and to gain my identity back.
How has Together We Bake changed your perspective on life?
Shawn: Now I know that I have a support team to get me through life situations.
Has someone at Together We Bake (a fellow participant, a volunteer, an instructor, etc) had a particular influence on you?
Shawn: All of Together We Bake’s staff had an influence on me.
How would you describe Together We Bake?
Shawn: This program is so amazing. I encourage women out there, if you need a second chance in life, join the program. It’s worth it!
What do you feel is the most valuable thing Together We Bake does?
Shawn: Together We Bake teaches you skills that you can use throughout your life so you won’t take the wrong path.
What is the most valuable thing you learned at Together We Bake?
Shawn: I value everything that was taught to me because, without this program, I was just alone and afraid of what others thought of me.
Do you have any specific memories of experiences at Together We Bake?
Shawn: When we first started groups, and we did the yarn activity.
What was the most challenging thing about the program? How did you overcome that challenge?
Shawn: Negotiation skills. I am still working on overcoming this challenge due to the fact that I still can’t come to terms with certain things.
What is something you are proud of that you achieved because of your participation in Together We Bake?
Shawn: I am proud that I was able to come out of my shell! I am proud that I am still working on myself and know that I am my own individual.
What advice do you have for women considering applying to Together We Bake?
Shawn: If you think that you are alone in this world and you have nowhere to go, get yourself in this program because it’s worth it, and you will feel like a ray of sunshine.
